Unfortunately-although Holland produces the finest flatfish and shellfish in the world, there are few specialized fish restaurants. An unusual situation in which Rien van Santen decided to do something about. In 1981 he opened Le Pecheur. With its elegant fresh interior it was an immediate success.

One of the main attractions is Le Pecheur's terrace garden. Situated in a delightful courtyard it affords a unique view of the gracious patrician Herengracht houses, and which can be enjoyed in the summer until the small hours. Each day - sometimes twice daily - Le Pecheur receives a fresh shipment from IJmuiden including plaice and sole, turbot and angler mussels, and oysters. The daily catch is then chalked up on the blackboard with the garniture and method of preparation.

We had a very tasty lunch in a relaxed and semi formal dining room. The food was very fresh, we started with 3 types of Salmon cooked in 3 different ways which was delicious and the main course was fresh sea bream beautiful cooked on a bed of seaweed, potato and basil. All simply delicious! The decor was minimal and clean. I would recommend this restaurant and plan to go back to try out the dinner menu soon.

Le Pecheur is a one of authentic french restaurant in Amsterdam. 3 of us enjoyed great fishy courses which has carefully chosen in terms of the restaurant week. Looks great, really tasty, warm atmosphere and hospitality. We definitely would like to come back again sometime!

This place was a real gem. They have a quite and charming seating area in the garden. The service was fair and really lovely food. We had a group of 6 and everyone raved over their meal. Portions ok, fish was fresh and there were both creative and traditional fish dishes. Thumbs up!
